Nigeria cabinet approves implementation of Confab report

Secretary to the Federal Government, Anyim Pius Anyim
Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved the final report of the National Conference as a step towards implementing its recommendations.
This was made known to journalists by the outgoing supervising Minister of Information, Edem Duke, alongside the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim Pius.
Mr. Anyim said the Council also approved the delegates’ modalities for implementing their resolutions or recommendations.
President Goodluck Jonathan had in September 2014, shortly after the end of the National Conference, approved the composition of a Presidential Committee to study and draw up the implementation strategy.
The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Bello Adoke, chaired the committee while Mr. Anyim acted as the Secretary.
Other members of the committee included the Minister of Transport, Idris Umar; Minister of State for Finance, Bashir Yuguda; Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka; Minister of State for Federal Capital Territory Administration, Olajumoke Akinjide and Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen.
The committee’s terms of reference included studying the Report of the 2014 National Conference, articulating the recommendations therein and developing appropriate strategies for its implementation, and advising the Federal Government on all matters necessary for the effective implementation of the Report.
Mr. Anyim said the committee, after looking at the recommendations, told the President that they could be implemented.
“You would have heard the president promising severally that he is going to implement the recommendations of the conference. So, the report coming to the council today is the first leg of taking concrete steps towards implementing the recommendations and resolutions of the conference” he said.
The SGF said the implementations will be done in two phases: Recommendations which have implications on constitutional amendment or enactment of new laws, will be compiled by the attorney general who will vet them and pass them onto the National Assembly for enactment into law.
Mr. Anyim said in the second phase, recommendations that have to do with policy matters and recommendations necessary for implementation by either federal agencies or state agencies or local government areas, will be referred to the agencies for immediate implementation.

Buhari, Osinbajo’ve sinned against God, Nigerians -Sen Adeyemi

Buhari white
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Smart Adeyemi yesterday, said the All Progressives Congress (APC) has committed two major mistakes against God and Nigerians.
The two mistakes according to Adeyemi are: foisting Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), a dictator, on the electorate and making his deputy, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, a man of God, abandon his pastoral calling.
In an interview with newsmen in Abuja yesterday, Senator Adeyemi insisted that the APC made “a grievous mistake by picking Buhari as its presidential candidate and they capped that up by bringing Prof. Osinbajo. They went and lured a man of God from the church to join a dictator. He should be prepared to do restitution after March 28.”
“By foisting Buhari on Nigerians; a man, who ordinarily should be asking for forgiveness and doing restitution in his old age, the APC has wronged Nigerians. This is a man, who is not even in tune with economic realities.”
Senator Adeyemi called on the leadership of the Redeemed Church of God not to allow Osinbajo back into its fold but make him undergo cleansing and restitution.
His words: “APC lured a man to betray his divine calling. Osinbajo should not be allowed to go back to Redeemed Church. He has betrayed the sheep he’s pastoring. I’m ashamed that he has betrayed his calling.
“He should undergo restitution and purification. Why? Because he has mingled in sinful activities. He has joined people in maligning a man chosen by God to lead Nigeria and left the path to align with a man that sinned against God and Nigerians.
“He’s now celebrating a dictator against the Nigerian people. It was Buhari who jailed people for 150 and 200 years when he was Head of State. Where have you ever heard of such sentences? If he thinks some people have forgotten, we have not.
“Osinbajo is backing a man without vision and has decided to join a party that is godless. The APC is a party that has been formed purely for vendetta; the APC is only out to retaliate and settle scores with people and its unfortunate that a man of God is in cahoots with these groups of people. The APC was formed purely for business purposes.
“Buhari today should be kept in isolation, praying for forgiveness of sins against God and the Nigerian people; for the oppression of the Nigerian people and the draconian laws he foisted on the people.”
Senator Adeyemi insisted that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would win the March 28 and April 11 polls with a landslide.

Boko Haram: Nigerian troops uncover bodies in Bama well

Scores of dead bodies have been found in a well in Bama, a community in Borno State that was recently wrestled away by Nigerian troops, from Boko Haram terrorists.
PRNigeria, a media organization that disseminates statement for security agents in Nigeria, said the large number of bodies found in the well are apparently some of the hostages of the terrorists or those who resisted them.
“Aside those whose bodies were thrown inside wells, others were also said to have been executed on the River Bama Bridge as the terrorists fled the town,” PRNigeria reports.
The media organization said some civilians who have been cooperating with Nigerian troops narrated scary tales of the group’s brutality.
They said the terrorists ruled in the vicinity executing their version of religious jurisprudence ruthlessly.
An intelligence officer is reported to have confirmed that a cordon and search operation in the town is continuing with interrogation by troops.
Also, the military’s medical and emergency teams have been attending to survivors and evacuating some of the internally displaced person following a screening process.
It also said the spokesperson for the Defence Headquarters, Chris Olukolade, a major general declined comment on the specific atrocities committed by the group. He said specific details will only be given after the ongoing thorough search of the town and its environments is concluded.
Bama, the second largest Local Government Area in Borno, fell to Boko Haram on September 11, 2014.
Some residents, mostly women and children who tried to flee the area at the time were reported to have died of thirst and hunger as insurgents tightened their grip on the town.
The community was liberated from the group on Monday by troops of the Nigerian military.

Either Jonathan nor Buhari can make Nigeria better – Gani Adams

Neither President Goodluck Jonathan nor his major challenger in this month’s presidential elections, Muhammadu Buhari, can make Nigeria better unless the foundation of the country is restructured, the leader of the Odua Peoples Congress, Gani Adams, has said.
Mr. Adams, who spoke on Saturday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, said the constitution upon which Nigeria is governed is defective and should be changed.
“When we are looking for original change in Nigeria, it’s not about the individual or personality,” he said at the Lisabi Day Celebration in Abeokuta. “It’s about the constitution, the system, the institution. You can only change the system through a genuine constitution by the people.”
“The constitution given to us in 1999, no millions of Buhari can move this country forward without a constitutional change; no millions of Jonathan can move it forward, if you don’t change the constitution.
“If you don’t practise true federalism according to the way it should be practised like in the United States, Nigeria cannot move forward.”
Mr. Adams, who supports Mr. Jonathan’s re-election bid, added that “to move this country forward for a change, we must change the constitution first.
“We must change the structure and we must re-orientate our people. But for you to re-orientate our people, the document for running the country, the constitution, must change because when you have a bad book to run the country, there is no way the orientation and psyche of the people can change.”
While mentioning some of the arrangements he considers defective in the Nigerian structure, Mr. Adams said, “You can imagine, the individual state cannot control their own security, the order must come from Abuja; the states cannot control their own electricity.
“You can imagine, cases have to be decided finally by the Supreme Court in Abuja. These are some of the things we corrected in the recent National Conference that ended last year.
“About 633 recommendations were passed to the government and we categorized them in three sectors–the Judiciary, the Legislature and the Executive – so that Nigeria can move forward. There is a limit to which we can blame Jonathan.”
Defending his call for practise of true federalism, Mr. Adams said if Borno State had its own state police, the Boko Haram crisis  would not have gotten out of hand as the state government would have checkmated the insurgents before calling on the federal police.
“But in a situation where you are expecting orders from Abuja, only one structure of police with a population of 200 million people and 243 ethnic nationalities, it will be extremely difficult,” he said. “Every nationality will play the game in the interest of his ethnic nationality in the system.”
The leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural group also stated his reason for supporting Mr. Jonathan’s re-election bid.
“The issue of Jonathan is not much problem,” he said. ” Although he has his own shortcoming, based on the issue of the Chibok girls and others, security challenges, but this man has tried his own best and this man has promised that he would implement the outcome of the National Conference.
Speaking on his opposition to Mr. Buhari’s candidature, Mr. Adams said “the problem I have with Buhari is that he was one of the people who criticised that conference when we were being nominated as delegates. And my brother, (Bola) Tinubu was the one that said that it’s a diversionary tactics. Buhari does not believe in the progressive ways.”
Mr. Adams spoke further on his disagreement with former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu, who is a leader of Mr. Buhari’s All Progressives Congress.
“Tinubu was one of the people we learnt true federalism from. I learnt true federalism from Tinubu. We saw him as a hero 12 years ago but a sudden change in his ideology gave me a serious thought,” he said.
“I don’t have any serious issue about them because I’m not a government official but notwithstanding I have the right to defend my own future. I’m leading an organization of millions of people and I will not lead them the wrong way.
“If it is the wish of President Jonathan to implement the outcome of the National Conference, let him be the president for a second term. That’s our position. That’s the position of OPC, Gani Adams, Fasehun. That’s the position of Afenifere. That’s the position of the Yoruba Council of Elders, that’s the position of many self-determination groups.
“Yet some civil society groups have kept quiet on these issues. So, we need to move this country forward on the basis of structure and not about saying Buhari will come to perform miracle. When Buhari was in power, it was Buhari/Idiagbon government, not only Buhari. Idiagbon did much of the job in government. Buhari was just the administrator. Idiagbon was the master-strategist of that government.”
On the teenage girls kidnapped last April from their school in Chibok, Borno State, the OPC leader said he believed the girls were no more on Nigeria soil, and therefore called on Federal Government to beam its search on the neighbouring countries of Chad and Niger
“You are talking of Chibok girls. I believe those girls are not in Nigeria. If they were, they could have got them back. I believe the government should search beyond Nigeria. They should search Niger and Chad. We should look beyond Nigeria. 230 girls within age range of 15 years and you say they are still within our territory. It’s not easy with the kind of security network we have in this country.”
Speaking further on how he believes Nigeria is being governed, Mr. Adams said, “Nigeria has got to a stage that our system is over-rotten. We have got to a stage that we are recycling some families in government since the 60s and we are recycling some Mafia.
“When we are looking for original change in Nigeria, it’s not about the individual or personality.”
On Nigeria’s various culture, Mr. Adams said government was not doing enough to promote it; but explained that since the  government could not do it alone, there should be a synergy between the government and private organizations.
“In the whole world, it’s not only government that promotes culture or sustain identity. Nigeria is a complex nation; we have about 242 ethnic nationalities. So, every nationality has to take its destiny in its own hands. You must not depend on the government.
“If you depend on the government, it will be confused. Which one should we promote amongst the others and there is no culture that is inferior. So, it’s a duty and responsibility for individual ethnic nationalities to make sure they promote their culture. When it’s becoming popular, the government, whether state or federal will want to be part of it.
“Outside the shores of Nigeria, when a good thing comes from your compound though it doesn’t belong to your family, you’ll tell outsiders that this is part of my family. But in a situation where you don’t package it well, you don’t organize it well, you don’t inform people about the uniqueness and goodness of it,
definitely they will not align with it. Even if we are doing anything, a person who does not have knowledge of religion will continue to demonize it.”

PDP will win the general elections in spite of APC’s increased propaganda – Babangida

Gov. Aliyu Babangida of Niger has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, would win the general elections in spite of increased propaganda from the All Progressives Congress, APC, and other opposition parties. Babangida said this while fielding questions from State House correspondents in Abuja. According to him, the PDP has no problem winning the elections, both at the gubernatorial and presidential level. “Believe me, I have no problem. While it may be tougher this time around, because of the confederation, but believe me, PDP will win Niger State without any hesitation, and I have no problem with that. “I don’t even think twice about it. When people are very good in propaganda, sometime, they even come to believe their own propaganda. “But believe me, we have no problem in Niger State as far as PDP is concerned.” The governor, who acknowledged that the PDP made some forgivable mistakes during its primaries, said many of those who defected from the party would come back after the elections. He said the postponement of the general elections had provided the party an opportunity to reconcile with aggrieved members. “There are, may be, places where we have a few problems, particularly where people might have felt aggrieved because of the way and manner the primaries were conducted. “But, believe me, we are doing extremely well particularly, with this time frame that has been extended. “It has given us an opportunity to reconcile with all those who we can reconcile with. There are some who may be bitter enough, may be until after elections before they decide to come back. “Many of them who had left, the moment we win back our seats, they will all come back again.” On the use of card reader during the general elections, Babangida expressed doubt over the effectiveness of the machine. Commenting on the friction between him and his deputy, the governor said that the differences had since been reconciled. NAN reports that there had been a face-off between the governor and his deputy, Musa Ibeto, following his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in February.

These people do travel outside Nigeria almost every month, they are educated and have seen good lives and environments, their kids and families are outside Nigeria enjoying the goodies of Europe, Asia, America and developed nation but we are here fighting each other.

Imagine, after commenting here, on Facebook, you will go home the same without any change in your life, without a job even with a job, which is not secured , no good road, no good schools, no good hospitals, no good environments, no employment, while those leaders are enjoying and looting our

Let me ask you Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa and others; have you seen any of their children commenting on Facebook or reading your comments? No you can’t, because they see us as ordinary people.

Let’s unite, love ourselves, live in peace, lend a helping hand to one another and move this great country ahead. Let’s forget tribalism. It won’t help us. Let’s forget religion, as it will not do us good. Rather let’s think how we can better our country as we have no other country except Nigeria.
Every religion preaches peace, love and harmony. So why are we fighting each other? Why are we killing ourselves, why the hatred?
Stop it today and think “What can I do to make my country a better place?”

Tell yourself today: “NIGERIA FIRST BEFORE TRIBE, I AM A NIGERIAN!”
Sing the national anthem today and tell yourself: “I believe in One Nigeria.”
No leader since the inception of democracy is better than another, check from OBJ to GEJ. No electricity, no good roads, no good education, no shelter, no employment, nothing is moving in Nigeria and yet instead of us the youth forming an alliance to stop all this we are here accusing one another.

We have Crude Oil in abundance, we have Agriculture, we have Fertile Land, we have Coal, we have Gold. God blessed Nigeria with all the whole Mineral resources on the Earth, but yet after 54 years we are still backward, nothing to show for it.
Ok, let’s skip off the Military Rule and count from 1999 to date. We are still backward. Instead of our leaders developing our country, they are busy looting our resources and using it to develop other countries.

People we voted to rule us are now against us, we they Youth are at the receiving end and we are here hating, insulting and inciting one another.

Stop commenting on their profiles, tell them what they supposed to hear, ask them about their respective families.

Together we can make Nigeria a better nation, Igbo is no better than Hausa or is Hausa better than Igbo, Yoruba is not better than any tribe likewise no tribe is better than one another, Christian, Muslim, traditionalist, pagan. all we want is peace, good governance. What will you achieve if Nigeria breaks up, tell me? The ruling class will still be ruling.
I believe in Nigeria, I love Nigeria!
